Great Leaders Now In Demand
Great Leaders are now in demand to lead the global economic recovery.
If you are not yet a leader but can identify in yourself all the attributes of a great leader, then now is the time to step forward and seek the challenge. If you are already an established leader with a fabulous track record then the world is your oyster!
Since the misfortunate slide of the global economy in 2007/8, the average leader, appointed on the basis of his or her connections and an MBA, is no longer a viable candidate for companies that need to spearhead a sound recovery for long term shareholder equity.
Investors are starting to demand that the leadership of companies be replaced with new, fresh candidates with a rational balance between transactional and transformational leadership. Candidates that can reduce cost yet grow revenues and profitability in a sustainable way. Investors want leaders who are inspirational, charismatic; who can understand and are involved with their businesses and can accurately forecast some stability. They want leaders who are open, honest and can lead the people to produce excellence consistently. They want to see leaders who can communicate effectively with Boards, bring execution of their vision and have the support of shareholders, staff and customers. Leaders who will be respected. They want Truly Great Leaders!
This is the greatest opening for new leaders to step forward and stop the appointment of new names+same profile that has been happening for decades, the CEO shuffle board game. This is the best chance I have seen in my corporate career for new leadership to move into the limelight and prove what transformational leadership can bring!
This is the time for fresh new energy, for inspirational leaders to fly high and change the corporate landscape!
Do Not Accept Less Than Happiness!
Most people cannot believe that a person can be really happy.
Even less people believe that you can be both happy and successful.
Many think that to be successful means you must give up happiness!
A situation we see often, happened again just a few nights ago.
A friend and her Mum were enjoying a glass of wine with us in our home. Later in the conversation, my partner Rudy commented to my friend that he knew she had been unhappy in her situation for a long time, and he wondered why she didn’t do something about it.
She said she didn’t really know why, maybe it was just habit and acceptance now after ten long years.
She lives in a place she does not like at all, she is unhappy in her relationship and has some added problems recently.
Rudy said 'you hate where you live, you are not happy with your relationship and it is unlikely to change, you are a lovely person so why not take the opportunity to go and be really happy.'
Her response was ‘ Noone is really happy though, it is a bit unrealistic to expect real happiness isn’t it?’
Rudy said ‘I am happy!’
I said ‘I am happy!’
She laughed a little, and then said ‘ Oh don’t give me any of your fantastic stuff, this magic you believe in, you have problems too in your lives.'
We agreed we, like everyone, have probems intrude on our space quite regularly, usually not things of our own making. Anyone who has teenagers and extended family can relate to that I am sure.
But we do not have problems with each other, and we do not let external problems spoil our happiness. Problems that enter our lives just have to be dealt with, and we see them just as external factors of life. We deal with them, and get on with as much enjoyment as possible.
Our friend sadly does not believe that you can be happy and still deal with life's meteorites.
She feels that it is normal for people to be unhappy, and in fact she is right. By definition normal means 'typical or usual' and 'of the majority', so if the majority are unhappy and let their external problems control their lives, then it is normal to be unhappy.
Normal, but completely unnecessary!
To be happy; to feel happiness and joy and appreciation every day is a right of birth, we can rise above everything else, we can reframe it, handle it, manage it out and hopefully dismiss it.
If it’s a small thing ( and you know how many small things cause major grief to some people) we can even just swat it away, just like a mosquito.
To live our lives, to waste our time being unhappy is crazy when life is so short, and this is the only life we know of.
Don’t waste your life being unhappy, make the decision to change it today!

Life's Mosquitoes
Life’s mosquitoes are all the little bugs that occur everyday to distract and annoy us. There is a great expression that I refer to often ‘Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff’ I do not know who originally said it, but it is even the title of a book by Richard Carlson, PhD, and also many articles.
If you truly want a happier life, then do not worry or get annoyed about the myriad of small annoyances that lie there in wait for us everyday.
The bus is late. Your watch is slow. The toothpaste is squeezed from the top. The person next to you in the movies is a leg jiggler. Bad Manners. People ignoring my rights on the road. People honking their horn. Inconsiderate drivers like tailgaters. Kids not cleaning up their mess. Receiving chain emails. Someone playing music you do not like. People who promise and then do not deliver. Commercial breaks at critical points in a movie. People throwing cigarette butts on the ground. The sound of chainsaws.
All those small things listed above are just a tiny example of what bugs people. We are all different but we get bugged pretty easily, and that negative injection can turn a whole day into crap! I have seen relationships break over stupid, small things for people who otherwise were really cool together – what a shame!
Imagine - we can move away from that.
And, it is even EASY to do so!
IF you can change the bug, change it! (I.e. Fix your watch now)
If you cannot change the bug, then STOP before getting annoyed, ask yourself ‘How important is this?’ ‘Will I remember this tomorrow, next month, next year?’ Chances are you will not even remember it tomorrow, let alone next week. We easily remember the important things in life, but have you ever heard anyone say ‘The keys were left on the wrong cupboard 11 times last year?’ Yet, you may have quite cross about the keys being on the wrong cupboard, possibly caused ill feeling at home, started your day feeling negative, all over something you don’t even recall later! What a waste of energy!
So, next time something small irritates you, stop and ask:
Can I Fix This? Yes, and then fix it! No, then keep going…..
Will I remember this tomorrow?
Will I remember it next week?
Will I remember it next year? If you answer this yes, then it is not a mosquito!
Then take a deep breath, and realign your position, realize and admit it’s not worth an argument or a bad day.
You Are Amazing! - Swat Those Mozzies Away!

Manage Internal Presentations for Huge Productivity Gains!
Let me ask you honestly – When was the last time you told a senior person, reporting to you, that their presentation was unnecessary, or over presented, or too long!
I have frequently seen slide presentations for internal meetings that were over 100 slides long!
Can you imagine? There was a Senior Director I met in one company, on about £150GBP, or $200 USD per HOUR!
His presentations were frequently between 50 and 100 slides. Each presentation just cost the company around 2,000 USD or more! They were internal presentations.
Now in large companies there can be, on any one day, hundreds, yes hundreds, of people around the globe spending more than 1000 usd in time each on internal presentations.
Let us assume conservatively, it was just 150 people, that is a cost of 150,000 usd a day!
Now try to add in the cost of lost productivity – what should those people have been doing? Helping someone sell something, collecting revenue, hugging a customer, producing a faster production line, improving a product? Or perhaps they should not have been there at all!
I have worked in organizations where to get anything approved above me required a .pp. However in my own team I banned anything over 10 slides, I preferred not to have them at all (but use a whiteboard if necessary). No one ever came to me with a fancy presentation, those that had to have a presentation – it was a very short, sharp and simple one. No fancy graphics, wraps, animations, or innovative tricks. Just the facts and maybe a picture or two when required.
Now I can use PowerPoint, I have even gone as far as creating an animated avatar for a huge audience at a technology conference, where previous .ppts had bored them to sleep. I love using PowerPoint, I am visual, but I abhor using them internally!
I also find it mind numbing when people read their presentations to me. They should be used as support material not as the transcript of the discussion.
Manage the use of slide presentations in your organisations, and you will have much higher productivity and executives who actually have to learn and understand their business properly and speak from their knowledge ( not reading off a screen).
One company I studied recently could have saved up to 50% of senior executive time by this one policy change!
Higher productivity, better informed decision making, and increased customer contact - all from simply reducing and managing internal presentations!
